You can leave your car at the village of Blair Atholl. Alternatively, arrive by train. Starting the walk here, means that you will have a good few miles to get into your stride before tackling the Lairig Ghru; the famous pass through the Cairngorms. It’s an easy and pleasant walk through Glen Tilt and later, Glen Dee.
After the Lairig Ghru the return route from Aviemore first takes you via Strath Nethy to the head of Loch Avon. Rock fall has created the notable ‘Shelter Stone’ so be sure to take a look. The path down Glen Derry to the Linn of Dee is well used, but when you turn west on your way to Glen Feshie you may find the place to yourself. The Minigaig Pass is another very quiet path and especially beautiful when the heather is in flower. Watch out for the deer too.
Very soon, you will be back in Blair Atholl and I’m sure that you will have enjoyed your walk immensely.
