Although this walk is worth a visit for it’s own merits, I devised it to loosen up a few leg muscles before embarking on an ‘island hopping’ trip from Oban; maybe you could do the same.

Looking at the map there appears to be a lot of road walking involved, but there is only eleven miles in total. You can leave your car in Lochgilphead for the duration of your trip; alternatively, a coach operates from Glasgow.

The walk begins beside the Crinan Canal and after two miles, you head east to follow forest tracks. It’s very important to keep an eye on the map, as there are many junctions to negotiate through the trees. You leave the forest at GR: 936994 just before Carron (a small farm building).

Route finding from now on is quite easy, although the path does turn elusive in Gleann Domhain at times.

From Loch Scammadale the path is very overgrown, which adds to the fun! Once in Oban, you can catch a ferry to some of the islands, or a coach back to Lochgilphead, or perhaps, the train to one of the other walks…
